Before Vans built a giant skatepark, before The city spent millions on skateparks, before any of us knew who the Maloof brothers were. NYC Skaters did it themselves, using heart, ingenuity, some crafty bargaining with property owners. I was in College and just learning my Hasselblad. The city was new to me, the scene was grimey in the best possible way.
